Flylady's 11 Commandments

Through her website (flylady.net) and her daily e-mail missives to thousands of  dedicated subscribers, Marla Cilley—a.k.a The FlyLady (she was once a fly fishing instructor)—shares her wisdom about being organized and stress free.

Herewith are her quick and easy rules to live by.

Keep your sink clean and shiny.

Get dressed every morning, even if you don’t feel like it. Don’t forget your lace-up shoes.*

Do your “morning routine” (take a shower, get dressed and put on make-up) before doing anything else. Every night, do your “before bed” routine (which should include    tasks such as flossing, moisturizing your face and laying out tomorrow’s clothes).

Do something for yourself every day, and maybe every morning and night.

Don’t forget to laugh every day. Pamper yourself. You deserve it.

Don’t allow yourself to be sidetracked by the computer.

Don’t pull out more than you can put back in an hour.

Work as fast as you can to get the job done. This will give you more time to play later.

Pick up after yourself. If you take something out, put it away when you finish.

Don’t try to do two projects at once—it’s one job at a time.

Smile, even when you don’t feel like it. Smiling is contagious. Make up your mind to be happy and you will be.

* According to Cilley, wearing shoes puts a person in a different frame of mind. Shoes mean work. And if the shoes lace, they can’t be kicked off. For those who don’t want to wear outdoor shoes in the house, Cilley suggests assigning a pair for indoor use only.
